Objective To observe the outcomes of two different means of gastric lavage for rescuing patients with organophosphate poisoning.Methods The effects of single gastric lavage with water or repeated gastric lavage with saline on mortality of patients with organophosphate poisoning were retrospectively compared.Results Mortality of patients using repeated gastric lavage with saline was significantly lower than that of single gastric lavage with water (4.8% vs 13.0%;P<0.05).Conclusions A modified method of using repeated gastric lavage with 37～41℃ saline is more effective than single gastric lavage with water for decreasing mortality of patients with organophosphate poisoning.
