The series of novels about Qing Dynasty emperors written by Er Yue-he(also known as the'descending sunglow'series)were widely bailed soon after publication at home and abroad,and are drawing increasing attention.The large circulation and several reprints certainly reflect the success of the novels,which can be attributed to the conformity of the author's aesthetic conceptions to that of common people.The author views life from the angles of common people and conventional standards and the novels reflect his respect and recognition of the leisurely lifestyle and aesthetic interests of common people.The success story of Er Yue-he again displays the strength of folklore and its inspiration to literary creation.
