CAS President Lu Yongxiang, who is also TWAS vice president, offered asix-point proposal for the future development of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) whileaddressing the opening ceremony of the TWAS 2003 Meetings held on Oct. 16 in Beijing. Lu noted TWAShas played an extremely important role in promoting South-South and South-North cooperation over thepast 20 years. 'Today, in the context of an increasingly globalized yet polarized world, and inthis era of knowledge-based economies, TWAS faces higher expectations and added responsibilities forshouldering a new and greater historic mission,' he said.
