摘要
通过考察英语委婉语的发展历史及其折射出的社会文化现象,归纳出了英语委婉语的基本特点;并着重从语义、语音和文化三个方面讨论了英语委婉语的构造和特征,以提高人们在社会生活中正确使用英语委婉语的水平和能力。
English euphemism is an essential part of English language. Based on its developmant and reflection of cultural phenomenon, the paper induces some basic features of English euphemism and discusses the makeup and traits in three aspects, namely, semantics, phonetics and culture. Finally, it dwells on the proper application of English euphemism in social life.
