AIM:To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of acupotomology in treatment of the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome. METHODS:One hundred and eighty patients with syndrome of the third lumber vert ebrae transverse process, 107 males and 73 females, aged 17-71 years old, inclu ding 126 cases of unilateral lumbago, 54 cases of bilateral lumbago, were random ly divided into 3 groups of 60 patients each: acupotomology group, blockade grou p and acupuncture group.Rating Scale curative effect on disease in lumber was co nducted in patients before and after treatment, and then statistically analyzed in results. RESULTS:The scores of the scale were (9.6±2.7) and (23.0±5.7) before and aft er treatment in the acupotomology group respectively, 9.9±2.8 and (15.1±7.1) i n the blockade group respectively, (9.7±2.9) and (13.2±6.5) in the acupuncture group respectively. The amelioration exponent was (0.56±0.61), (0.33±0.27) an d (0.24±0.21) in the three groups respectively. The score of the acupotomology group after treatment was higher than that of the blockade and acupuncture group s respectively(t=18.32,5.65,4.21, P< 0.001). The therapeutic efficacy of the a cupotomology group was significantly better than that of the blockade and acupun cture groups respectively(χ2=38.1, 41.1, P< 0.01). The scores before treatmen t were significantly higher than those after treatment in the three groups respe ctively(t=6.39, 11.85, P< 0.001).
