This experiment was conducted at the altitude of 3250 metres above sea level to determine the zone of thermoneutrality(ZTN) of the fasted growing yak. Twelve yaks at the age of 1-3 years were used to measure the respiratory rate(RR), heart rate(HR) and the rectal temperature(RT) as well as fasting heat production(FHP) with closed-circuit mask. The results show that the ZTN of the growing yak is 8-14℃. When ambient temperature(Ta) is higher than 14℃, the RR,HR and RT rise up immediately, and whenever Ta rise 1℃ the daily FHP increases by 10.5kJ/kgW^(0.52). When Ta is below 8℃,the RT drops down, and whenever Ta descend 1℃ the daily FHP decreases by 14.6kJ/kgW^(0.52), and there is no change in HR and RR. When Ta is lower than-20℃,the daily FHP increases rapidly by 18.4kJ/kgW^(0.52)℃.
