The scrolling florae are known as the theme motif of the pattern design that was popular in China from the 5th century until the middle of 6th century. For a long while, the academic circle had considerate the popular scrolling florae design as the signs of necessary stage for showing the birth of the celestial being or animals, so called derived birth of celestial beings. This article has made a system study on the catalog raisonnè of the scrolling florae and has made a carefully examination on all types of the scrolling florae and has traced back original source of each types of scrolling florae not only for their initial creation stage but the historic process of development and the composition that had mixed up with other kind of pattern design and finally combined into a new format and matured in its presentation composition form as well. Thus, based on above studies, this article had drawn a conclusion that Chinese traditional motif of flying clouds, that was believed in, to representative the idea of celestial world had determined effect on the process of forming the scrolling design of florae as a subjective motif. In the course of development process, the honeysuckle and lotus flowers , by this time, were introduced from the western countries to China, combined into the pattern design and together with the idea of cloud to forming a strong sense of flowing motion. And in the most cases, this article does not think that the scrolling florae mean the necessary background of deriving birth of the celestial beings.
