The distribution of exchangeable Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn content of up to 1994 samples in top soil (0~20 cm) in cultivated soils of Shenyang suburbs, Liaoning, China, was studied by the methods of principal component analysis, cluster analysis and correlation analysis. Principal factors affecting the distribution of Ca and Mg, Fe and Mn, and Cu and Zn are in three different groups respectively; correlation coefficients between Ca and Mg, Fe and Mn, and Cu and Zn are comparatively large, and that between Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn are positive at the 0.01 level; while Ca is negatively correlated with Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn, which indicates that geobiochemical properties of these elements have strong influences on their geographic distributions.
