Fabrication of Artificial Nanocluster Crystals

摘要 A team led by Jia Jinfeng (Jin-Feng JIA) and Xue Qikun (Qi-Kun XUE) at theCAS Institute of Physics (IOP) has fabricated for the first time many kinds of artificialnanocluster crystals on Si substrate, by using magic clustering process on a periodic template.Their work has been reported by many international scientific journals and media, including Phys.Rev. Focus, Nature, Science News, and MRS Bulletin. Fabrication and understanding of nanoclustershave become one of the most exciting research areas. This is driven by their great potentialapplications in technology and scientific significance to bridge our understanding between molecularand condensed-matter physics. The beneficial structural, electronic, optical, magnetic and chemicalproperties of nanoclusters can be applied in many fields, for examples, nanocatalysis, optical andelectronic devices, single-electronic devices, ultrahigh-density magnetic recording, quantumcomputing, and quantum cryptography.
