摘要
镇江西津渡救生会创设之早 ,规模之大 ,影响之广 ,遗址保存之完好 ,世所少见。西津渡救生会渊源于宋代乾道年间。清代镇江善士蒋豫一家七代人相继办救生会 140余年。后救生会扩大到沿江各渡口。康熙帝曾予褒扬 ,是为中国封建社会慈善救济事业的盛举。
Lifesaving Union in Zhenjiang Xijin Ferry never shows its early appearance.It was founded in Qiandao Period of Song Dynasty.Jiang Yu,a philanthropist in Zhenjiang,had run the Lifesaving Union in succession over 140 years with seven generations of his family in the Qing Dynasty.Later the Union extended to other ferries along the Yangtze River.Its influence spread all over the Yangtze River valley.It became a grand event of charitable institutions in China's feudal society.
