论语言知识和语用知识在外语教学中的权重 被引量:14

On the Weight of Linguistic Knowledge and Pragmatic Knowledge

摘要 语言知识和语言运用是一个硬币的两面,前者是基础,后者是前者在实际中的应用。但语言知识只是成功交际的一部分。语言运用是一个心理认知过程,涉及语言的社会文化特征及交际策略的运用。鉴于获得语言能力所需的努力和语言运用的认知特点,语用能力的培养虽是外语教学的目标,却不应成为课堂教学的主体。笔者拟从语言能力和语用能力的关系及语言运用的认知特点方面加以论证。 Linguistic knowledge is the prerequisite of language use,and the latter is the exploitation of the former in reality:they are the two sides of the language coin. However,linguistic knowledge is only part of successful language use. Language use is culture specific and involves a cognitive process of applying heuristics. Although the fostering of pragmatic competence should be the target of foreign language teaching,it should not be the focus of foreign language classes. Due to the enormous effort needed to obtain linguistic competence and the cognitive feature of language use,the writer argues that foreign language classes should concentrate on the teaching of linguistic knowledge whereas the teaching of pragmatic aspect of language is relegated to the secondary position. The author argues for this view from the standpoint of the relation between linguistic competence and pragmatic competence,and of the cognitive feature of language use.
