The neo-romanticism, represented by NagaiKafu and TanizakiJunichiro, was developed from the late romanticism in the 30'of Meiji period. Although it did not-due to its social environment and its own limits-develop into a great romantic era as that in Western Europe, its position in the history of the development of Japanese literature is incontrovertible. The neo-romanticism takes beauty and enjoyment as major human aims, paying more attention to mood as against to feeling, to internal world as to external nature.
