摘要
查理斯·艾略特是19世纪美国高等教育思想家和改革家,对推进美国大学改革发展起过重要作用。他根据自己的大学实践,对19世纪美国大学改革提出了真知灼见的办学思想和主张,如坚持大学改革本土化的思想、提倡选课制、强化教师队伍建设等,为把哈佛大学建成世界一流学府奠定了思想基础和实践基础。对于今天我国大学办学具有很强的借鉴意义。
As a thinker and reformer of American higher education in the 19th century, Charles Eliot played an important role in promoting the reformation and the development of American universities. He put forward the idea of localization of American universities, the application of elective system and the reinforcement of the recruitment of famous or talented teachers, preparing Harvard both practically and ideologically to become the first-class university in the world. Chinese universities today might use his experience for reference.
