The paper explores the strictlyinterdependent relationship betweensettlement forms, public infrastructures andenvironmental impact by analysing thesustainable urban form. With the case studiesin Netherlands, Italy and USA, the authorfocuses on politics and policies forrationalization and democracy of planningprocess, and shows that the multi-models,multi-instruments and diversity solutionsare sought in order to control the urbansprawl in the West communities.
