摘要
1939年昆明《今日评论》第1卷第20期刊发的陈梦家《白话文与新文学》一文,为中华书局出版的“陈梦家著作集”系列丛书所遗漏,该文是目前所见唯一一篇公开发表的陈梦家与朱自清进行学术论辩的文章。针对朱自清《新语言》一文中提出的“新语言”“现代文学”两个新名词,陈梦家指出,白话不是“新语言”,古代也有白话,现在的语言大致仍然是旧日的语言,且中国“五四”以来的“新文学”不能作分析和研究,不能与唐代文学、宋代文学相抗衡,故不能称之为“现代文学”,显现出陈梦家颇为独特的学术见解。该文对于了解20世纪三四十年代陈梦家的学术思想见解及其与朱自清的交往具有重要价值。
Chen Mengjia’s essay“Writing in the Vernacular and New Literature”,published in the 20th issue of Today Review,Vol.One in Kunming in 1939,was not included in the Collected Works of Chen Mengjia series published by Zhonghua Book Company.This is the only essay found so far publicly pub⁃lished for his academic debate with Zhu Ziqing.In response to the two new terms“new language”and“modern literature”put forward by Zhu Ziqing in his article“New Language”,Chen Mengjia pointed out that vernacular is not a new language,that there had been vernacular languages since ancient times,that the language used then was still roughly the old language,that China’s“new literature”could not be ana⁃lyzed and studied to compete with“Tang Dynasty literature”and“Song Dynasty literature”,and that for these reasons it could not be called“modern literature”.These are Chen Mengjia’s unique academic views.This essay is of great value for understanding Chen Mengjia’s academic ideas and his communica⁃tion with Zhu Ziqing in the 1930s and 1940s.
