There is a close relationship between the setup of higher vocational education specialties and regional economic development. As the northern transportation hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,Qingyuan City's“Three Rail Projects”and the construction of a“transportation+cultural tourism”ecosystem have raised greater demand for transportation professionals.Based on panel data from Qingyuan City from 2020 to 2024,this study constructs a“one core, three wings”model and employs the structural deviation coefficient analysis method to empirically examine the compatibility between the setup of transportation-related majors and regional economic development. The results show that there is an imbalance between the specialty structure of transportation majors and the regional employment and industrial structures.Specifically, there is an insufficient supply of professionals in road and water transportation, while urban rail transportation shows a relative surplus. This reflects issues such as lagging specialty setup, limited variety, and weak industry-education collaboration.Accordingly, the study proposes pathways such as optimizing the specialty structure, establishing a dynamic adjustment mechanism, and deepening school-enterprise collaboration to promote the integration of the“specialty-industry-talent”chain,thereby enhancing compatibility with the high-quality development of the regional economy.
