摘要
《妇女杂志》(1915-1920)对西方女杰的形象译介,在当时的特定时代背景下及刊物“贤妻良母”的核心宗旨指引下,重构出传统与现代交织的女性现代性想象。《妇女杂志》译介选材聚焦18-19世纪活跃于教育、艺术、科学、慈善等非政治领域的女性历史人物,塑造温和保守的女性典范形象。《妇女杂志》在译介实践中则多以增、减、改等译法,突出她们道德高尚、博爱奉献与兼顾家庭的形象特质。上述译介形象实为传统“贤妻良母”规范与现代公共参与意识相妥协的产物——既以社会奉献之名拓展女性公共空间,又以家庭责任与传统道德维系既有性别秩序。西方女杰的形象译介不仅是一种跨文化传播,更是深层次的文化协商与话语建构,映现出民国初年知识分子在传统与现代的困境中重构理想女性形象的复杂实践。
The translation and introduction of Western elite women images in The Ladies'Journal(1915-1920),shaped by the specific historical context of the time and guided by the journal's core tenet of“Virtuous Wife and Wise Mother”,reconstructed the imagination of female modernity where tradition and modernity intertwined.In terms of the selection,the journal focused on the female historical figures from the 18th and 19th centuries who were active in non-political fields such as education,art,science,and philanthropy,thereby shaping the moderate and conservative female exemplars.In the journal's translation and introduction practice,methods of addition,deletion,adaptation,etc.were frequently employed to highlight these women's distinctive traits of moral integrity,philanthropic dedication,and their ability to balance family responsibilities.The above-mentioned translated and introduced images were essentially a product of compromise between the traditional norm of“Virtuous Wife and Wise Mother”and a modern consciousness of women's public participation:they expanded women's public spheres in the name of social contribution,while simultaneously maintaining the existing gender order through an emphasis on domestic duties and traditional morality.The translation and introduction of Western elite women images thus served not only as cross-cultural communication but also as deeper cultural negotiation and discourse construction,reflecting the complex undertaking of the intellectuals in the early years of the Republic of China in reconfiguring ideal female images amid the dilemma between tradition and modernity.
