As a significant regional painting group that emerged in China's art scene during the 1980s,the collective of Yunnan modern heavy-color painters infused Chinese modern art with vibrant vitality through their intense, brilliant colors, unique ethnic flair, and fusion of Eastern and Western painting languages. The bold formal experiments in Yunnan Modern Heavy-Color Paint-ing represent not merely stylistic innovation but a cultural phenomenon.Existing research has predominantly focused on individual works and representative artists, with limited exploration from the creators'internal perspectives to uncover the cultural dynamics driving the formation and widespread influence of this artistic collective.Through the collation and analysis of oral history materials from Yunnan modern heavy-color painting artists, this study employs theories of collective memory and cultural identity to explore how these artists, through artistic practice and oral narratives, reveal that the"Yunnan Imagery"is not a natural phenomenon.Rather,it is a cultural construct jointly shaped by the creative practices, narratives, and recollections of memory. This offers a fresh research perspective for understanding the emergence mechanisms of regional art groups and schools.
