Framed by the interaction theory of ethnicity and nationality, this study explores how the Maasai people balance tradition and modernity through musical practices in the context of globalization.Combining fieldwork and ethnographic analysis, the research examines the Maasai’s living styles, belief systems, social structures, traditional ritual music practices and their modern transformations. The findings reveal that the Maasai cultural system, based on a semi-nomadic economy, centered on the worship of the deity Engai, and structured around age-set systems, reinforces social cohesion and identity through ritual music such as throat singing and Kuduo horn performances. In the process of modern transformation, ritual music has shifted from internal socialization to tourism performance, facing dual challenges of cultural commodification and loss of authenticity.Through community-led tourism initiatives and bilingual education, the Maasai have achieved identity reconstruction and cultural capitalization.
