Drawing on a comparative analysis of Qing court archives, original display arrangements in the Qing court, and cultural relics, this article integrates textual, spatial, and material evidence to investigate the modeling origins, pattern connotations, and production of the blue-and-white Sanskritinscribed Qingling-form high-footed vessel.Based on differences in rim diameter, the Qinglingstyle high-footed vessels can be divided into three types:Qingling-style ba bowls,Qingling-style ba bells, and Qingling-style ba tea cups.It is pointed out that the prototype vessel was the“Karma Han Ling”given to the Karmapa by the Ming emperor, and the Sanskrit seed syllables of the“Eight Great Bodhisattvas”inscribed on its exterior surface confirm its function as a ritual offering vessel and help to restore the setting it originally occupied within the palace. When used in the Qing palace as a ritual offering vessel, there were usually internal offerings such as the“Xiangnao,Chenxiangshanzi, glass vases, and wax vessels”.These were symbolic offerings for the“vessel offering”combination, with either seven or eight offerings, presumably all variations of the eight offerings.
