The Hetou cliff statues were carved in the fourth year of Yanchang period of the Northern Wei(515).Around the square niche there are thousand-Buddha niches, donor statues,out-going by ox cart, vowing text, and donor inscriptions on both sides and the bottom. The niches, details of decoration, and the main figures of the carvings in this area simultaneously incorporate features of both Buddhist and Taoist. They are a typical example of the mutual struggle and integration of Buddhism and Taoism during the late period of the Northern Wei Dynasty.
