摘要
有关中国现代性或是翻译现代性的阐发,论者多聚焦宏大叙事,忽略了面向市民社会、贴近生活的通俗现代性。20世纪30—40年代,《西风》月刊以“介绍欧美人生社会”为宗旨,译介了千余篇西洋杂志文。本文从副文本的角度出发,聚焦其译文按语与公共信箱中有关翻译的探讨,探究按语中通俗议题的内涵与框架的通俗性以及编读互动中翻译现代性的接受与通俗化重构。研究发现,副文本在建构通俗现代性过程中发挥三重作用:呈现通俗现代议题,重构通俗框架,以及在公共空间中推动译介知识的生活化。通过对《西风》翻译副文本的细察,研究旨在丰富对于副文本与现代性建构之关联的理解,勾勒出民国时期以上海报刊文学为代表的现代性通俗面向。
In discussions of Chinese modernity or translated modernity,scholars have often focused on grand narratives,overlooking the“popular modernity”that engages with civil society and reflects everyday human concerns.During the 1930s and 1940s,The West Wind Monthly,aiming to“introduce European and American life and society”,published over a thousand translated cameos.From the perspective of paratexts,this study examines editors’introductory notes and the translation discourse in its mailbox to explore its modern themes and the popular framing of modernity within the notes and the popularized modernity through reader-editor interactions.The study finds that the role of paratexts in constructing popular modernity:presenting popular modern topics,reframing popular knowledge,and promoting the integration of translated knowledge into everyday life within public spaces.Through an analysis of the translation paratexts in The West Wind Monthly,this research seeks to enrich the understanding of the relationship between paratexts and the construction of modernity,and to outline the popular dimension of modernity of Shanghai periodical literature as manifested in the period of the Republic of China.
