摘要
煤矿排水是煤矿开采过程中的关键环节。自晚清洋务运动时期起,近代中国煤炭开采开始引入机器,其中西方制造的“蒸汽泵”成为当时煤矿排水采用的主要设备之一。文章在追溯我国矿山排水工具发展史的基础上,分析英语词汇“pump”在近代中国的译入与传播过程,发现通过语义符码的跨文化重构,“pump”在汉语语境中完成了由“恒升车”“抽水筒”“唧筒”“帮浦”到“泵”的符号嬗变。这种基于汉语能指系统的概念整合,构建起技术知识本土化的知识再生产机制,使西方机械的技术原理得以准确转译,从语言层面消弭了技术传播的认知鸿沟。探究“pump”一词的汉译演变,既构筑起中西技术对话的知识桥梁,又揭示出晚清至民国时期知识精英在吸纳西方工业文明过程中,为打破语言障碍所采用的创造性策略。
Drainage is one of the crucial parts of coal mining.Since the Westernization Movement during the late Qing Dynasty,coal mining industry of modern China began adopting machinery,with Westernmanufactured“steam-powered pump”emerging as pivotal equipment for mine drainage.The article examines the historical progression of mine drainage tools in China.By analyzing the translation and dissemination of the English term“pump”in modern China,it reveals that its translation not only constructed an intellectual bridge for Sino-Western technological dialogue but also uncovered the creative translation strategies employed by intellectual elites from the Late Qing Dynasty to the Republican period towards Western industrial civilization.Through cross-cultural reconstruction of semantic codes,“pump”underwent a symbolic evolution within the Chinese linguistic context—progressing from terms like“恒升车”,“抽水筒”,“唧筒”and“帮浦”to the term“泵”.Exploring the evolution of the Chinese translation of the term“pump”not only builds a knowledge bridge for Sino-Western technical dialogue,but also reveals the creative strategies employed by intellectual elites from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China to break down language barriers in the process of absorbing Western industrial civilization.
