Shanghai ranks among China’s densest coffee-shop cities, and its spatiotemporal evolution reflects urban function restructuring and shifts in consumer behavior. From an evolutionary geography perspective, this study examines spatial pattern changes and influencing factors of coffee shops in Shanghai from 2014 to 2024.Results reveal a shift from a“monocentric with scattered nodes”layout to a“core-led,multi-centered”structure,with concentric expansion from core to suburbs.Large-scale coffee shops cluster in areas with high accessibility, intense commercial activity, and educated populations—an efficiencyoriented, functionally dependent pattern.Small-and medium-sized shops favor neighborhoods rich in cultural atmosphere and scenic resources, showing scene adaptability and residential embeddedness.OLS and spatial lag models identify office building density and dessert shop concentration as significant for both types;postgraduate population share and metro station density mainly affect large-scale shops;scenic spot density influences smaller shops, which also exhibit spatial diffusion effects. These findings underscore differentiated spatial dependencies across urban functional zones and offer implications for optimizing consumption facilities, renewing living circles, and enhancing cultural spatial planning.
