Since its introduction to China in the early 20th century, steel intaglio engraving has undergone a century-long process of cultural localization, evolving from technical transplantation to a distinctive cultural practice embodying Eastern aesthetics. From a practitioner's first-hand perspective, this study traces the technique's development trajectory in China:from initial technology transfer,to the formation of animating spirit through lines creative philosophy;from manual-laser synergy innovations,to cultural counterflow via the Asian Standard establishment.Through case studies including Portraits of Two Bombs,One SatelliteLaureates(两弹一星)andPillars of National Strength(大国重器)stamp series,it reveals how"innovation rooted in tradition"(守正创新)drives the"unity of dao and qi"(道器合一)transformation in the digital age, positioning engraving as a vital medium for narrating China's stories and engaging global cultural discourse.
