Understanding of Acupuncture Dose:Does Higher Intensity Mean Better?

摘要 As a posteriori therapy, acupuncture was not created in modern laboratories.Current clinical research primarily focuses on verifying the acupuncture modalities already in clinical use.One of the key issues in acupuncture research is the dose. The composition of acupuncture dose may include acupoint selection, stimulation method, frequency, number of sessions, the acupuncturist's skills and expertise, and the patient's subjective experience, among others. In general, higher acupuncture doses are associated with improved effects.(1-3)In studies focused on facial paralysis,it has been found that Deqi sensation or semi-permanent stimulation at the acupoints can enhance the effect.(4.5)In this article,we refer to this type of acupuncture dose administered within a certain timeframe as"intensity".However,it remains unclear how each of these components contributes to the overall effect. While you reap what you sow holds, the ratio of effort to effect is equally important.Adopting a pragmatic approach, researchers have begun exploring the cost-effectiveness of incremental acupuncture interventions.
