“Baijiu is not merely a drink, but also a cultural symbol of 5,000 years of Chinese history and a common source of pride for overseas Chinese communities,”said Yun Weilong, president of the Singapore Chinese Baijiu Association.Over 20 years ago, imported Western liquors were popular in Singapore, leaving little market space for baijiu,a traditional Chinese spirit distilled from sorghum or maize, even in Chinese restaurants.Public awareness of baijiu remained low.In 2004,Yun Weilong first introduced Moutai,a famous brand of baijiu,to Singapore.Since then,he has been promoting baijiu culture in the country.
