Linguistic landscape serves as a vital analytical tool for examining urban language ecology. With the increasing influx of foreigners in China,Nanjing has witnessed the emergence of an international block, later officially designated as the Jinyin Street International Youth Art Block, whose linguistic landscape is characterized by diverse multilingual signs. This study employs a geo-semiotic framework to investigate both typical and non-typical signs in Jinyin Street, analyzing their distinctive features and the motivations of different sign creators to evaluate the level of the block's internationalization.Findings reveal that while multilingualism is prevalent in both typical and atypical signs, the high dominance of Chinese in non-typical signage(94.1%)unveils a"Chinese-dominant,foreign language-marginalized"reality.Official signage maintains Chinese primacy due to policy constraints despite institutions'internationalization efforts, whereas private signage demonstrates greater multilingual diversity—predominantly employing foreign languages for symbolic commercial purposes rather than functional communication, which means low attention to the actual communicative needs of foreigners. The study proposes two optimization strategies:setting informational signage with minor languages and adding foreign languages on non-typical signage based on the survey of demographic composition and practical language needs of foreigners in Jinyin Street.
