The“female self-sacrifice”scenes in Ming Dynasty Chuanqi depict women offering their living selves as sacrifices to their deceased selves, expressing their understanding of the meaning of life.Thematically, these scenes can be divided into two categories:sacrificial acts of self-sacrifice and acts of self-redemption.Through subtle movements and poignant singing, the self-sacrificing women portray the general living conditions of Ming Dynasty women and their various pursuits in the face of life and death separations. These scenes not only narrate the plot but also emphasize theatrical stage effects, imbuing the performances with a sense of ritual and emotional beauty. The moral refinement and divine advocacy embedded in these self-sacrifice scenes reflect the inherent aesthetic functions of Ming Dynasty Chuanqi and reveal the awakening of life consciousness among Ming Dynasty women.
