多丽丝·莱辛的短篇小说《到十九号房间去》和《一个男人和两个女人》有诸多联结点,它们共同指涉了发生在英国的那场性解放思潮对传统的婚姻道德观的影响及由此引发的社会乱象,并对此进行了批判。而这两个文本的异质性则具有互动对话性质,作者通过苏珊的悲剧质疑婚姻中过度的理性;通过多萝西的幸福肯定了以情感为基础的婚姻;通过两位男主公不同的婚姻伦理观对家庭的影响,表明了作者对传统一夫一妻制家庭观念的坚持,否定和批判了当时社会上撕裂这种传统文明的观念和行为;又通过婚姻中第三者的心理独白,对插足他人婚姻的人们进行了道德上的规劝。在互文性理论的鉴照下,读者可以看到《到十九号房间去》的家庭所遇到的一系列问题和困境,都在《一个男人和两个女人》中得到了扭转或化解,后者可成为幸福家庭的示范。
Doris Lessing's short stories To Room Nineteen and A Man and Two Women are interconnected in several ways.Both stories explore how the sexual liberation movement in Britain affected traditional marital morals and led to social disruption,offering a critique of these transformations.The heterogeneity between the two texts engages in a dialogic interaction:through Susan's tragedy,Lessing questions the excessive rationality in marriage;through Dorothy's happiness,she affirms the value of emotion-based marriages;and through the differing marital ethical views of the two male protagonists,she demonstrates her adherence to traditional monogamous family values,rejecting and critiquing the contemporary,societal tendencies to disrupt such traditional norms.Additionally,through the psychological monologues of third parties intruding on marriages,the author offers a moral admonishment to those who interfere in others'unions.In the light of intertextuality theory,readers can observe how the issues and dilemmas faced by families in To Room Nineteen find resolution or mitigation in A Man and Two Women,with the latter serving as a model for a happy family.
