Driven by the dual dynamics of ecological conservation policies and modernization, herding communities in the desert grasslands of Inner Mongolia have undergone a transformative shift from traditional yurt settlements to dispersed and clustered residential patterns, profoundly reshaping pastoral lifestyles and cultural transmission mechanisms.Drawing on comprehensive field research conducted in Bayannur and Baotou municipal regions during July-August 2024,this study employs mixed approaches including questionnaire surveys,in-depth interviews, and spatial mapping to systematically examine the evolutionary trajectory of settlement transformations from nomadic yurts to dispersed and clustered configurations.Through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses,we investigate the ecological adaptation strategies and cultural inheritance influence mechanism.Empirical findings reveal that dispersed settlement models demonstrate significant advantages in ecological adaptability and social network maintenance;however, they simultaneously present critical challenges in cultural continuity and equitable access to public services. In response,we propose an innovative"elastic dispersed"settlement strategy that modulates residential density and reconstructs cultural networks.By balancing ecological preservation with economic development imperatives, this approach aims to facilitate sustainable grassland habitat development and resilient pastoral community transformation.
