The imperial court itself was a glamorous symbol associated with dignity, elegance, exquisiteness, and even mystery. The imperial palaces and daily items for clothing, food, residence, and transportation used in the Forbidden City during the Ming(1368-1644)and Qing(1644-1911)dynasties were naturally incomparable. From a material perspective, they reflected the development of the social economy, science, and technology,as well as the accumulation of academia and art at that time.As tools for the way, they were also carriers of court culture, vividly embodying the institutions, ideological system, and the materialized imperial supremacy. To maintain the daily imperial life, the emperors also had to expand financial resources and accumulate wealth from various means. This article depicts this from four aspects:the magnificence of imperial attire, the delicacy of cuisine, the rareness of utensils, and the financial revenues of the emperors.
