The latter half of the 20th century marked the zenith of postmodernism. In the field of historical research, postmodernism brought up a transition towards a focus on individual“narratives”or“memories”,yet this also led to issues of identity recognition and the absence of collective memory.Beloved is a significant work by Toni Morrison.Morrison employs memory as a conduit to rewrite the traumatic history of African Americans, and“canonizing”archival documentaries. This plays a crucial role in the complex and fragmented identity and cultural construction of African Americans under postmodernism.Beloved not only writes memories of the past, but also becomes an integral part of cultural memory.Through the writing of memory,Beloved has become a significant carrier of cultural memory and even the cultural memory itself, thereby exerting a positive impact on the formation of social identity.
