摘要
申丹教授提出的双重叙事进程理论为玛丽·雪莱的小说《弗兰肯斯坦》提供了新的阐释和解读视角。本文将悬念、戏剧反讽和误会等叙事策略作为切入点,探究《弗兰肯斯坦》的双重叙事进程特色。雪莱首先在显性叙事进程中设置了关于弗兰肯斯坦和“怪物”的人品悬念,然后在隐性叙事进程中揭示谜底。此外,她还从戏剧反讽的角度展现了显性叙事进程和隐性叙事进程中“怪物”这一科研成果的失败与成功,揭示了废品不“废”的科幻奇迹。该小说在故事情节的建构中以误会性描写为显性叙事进程,同时还用叙事暗流的方式揭露真相,修正或颠覆显性叙事进程中的不实描写,揭示“以貌取人”和“以地位取人”等歧视性思维方式的非理性和荒谬性。
The theory of dual narrative progression proposed by Professor Shen Dan provides a new way to illustrate and interpret Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.Suspense,dramatic irony and misunderstanding will be used as the breakthrough points to explore the features of dual narrative progression in this paper.Shelley firstly sets the personality suspense of Frankenstein and Monster in the explicit narrative progression,and then clarifies the suspense in the implicit narrative progression.In addition,from the angle of dramatic irony,she demonstrates the failure and success of the Monster as a scientific achievement in both explicit and implicit narrative progressions,disclosing the fantasized scientific wonder of a“failed”work.This novel adopts the description of misunderstanding in the explicit narrative progression and reveals the truth in narrative undercurrents,thus revising or reverting the untrue depiction in the explicit narrative progression and revealing the unreasonableness and ludicrousness of such discriminating thinking patterns as judging a person according to his physical features and social status.
