摘要
“化性起伪”是荀子哲学的中心思想,明晰其蕴含着怎样的内在逻辑,至关重要。荀子论“性”实有两面:生之谓性与及物之性,前者强调人生来具有的自然属性,后者强调官能与外物相接而产生的情性与欲性,此正是荀子所要“化”的对象。如何化性?荀子认为要通过“心伪”与“行伪”两个方面:“心伪”主张心要知“道”,这样才有“心之所可中理”的状态,心不仅要知“道”,且要将这种正虑、正念付诸行动,即“能为之动”;“行伪”强调要对正虑、正念以及“能为之动”不断积习,才会有“而后成”的实现,即“化性”成功。“伪”同“性”一样,也具有先天根基,即有“义”“辨”“质”“具”的道德潜质,这也就保证了“化性起伪”在逻辑上的自洽。
“Huaxingqiwei”(化性起伪)is the central thought of Xunzi's philosophy and clarifying its internal logic is conducive to the overall grasp and understanding of Xunzi's thought.Xunzi's view of human nature has two sides:natural and inborn feature or“shengzhiweixing”(生之谓性)and desire related to the outside world or“jiwuzhixing”(及物之性).The former emphasizes the inherent natural attributes of human beings,and the latter is the emotion and desire generated by the connection between senses and foreign objects,which is the object of Xunzi's transformation(化).How to transform human nature?Xunzi believes that there are two ways to make the transform,"xinwei"(心伪)and"xingwei"(行伪)."Xinwei"means that the heart and mind should know"Tao"(道),and put this kind of positive consideration and mindfulness into action."Xingwei"(行伪)emphasizes the accumulation of positive consideration,mindfulness and action,which finally comes to transformation.Like human nature,"wei"(伪)also has a congenital foundation,that is,it has the moral potential of"righteousness"and"discrimination",which ensures the logical connection of"huaxingqiwei".
