This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the three lines of the inscriptions carved on the Chaona ding tripod, which dates to the early phase of the Late Warring-States period. The vessel is now stored in the Guyuan museum. The paper argues that the new interpretation can shed insight on the changes of population in the Pengyang region of the upper Jin river valley during the Late Warring-States and the Early Western Han period as well as transformations of local administration. The King Huiwen of the Qin state founded the Wushi county during the Late Warring-States period in the original residential area of Wushi rong. Then Emperor Wu of the Western Han set up the new county,Chaona,in the geographic location of Wushi.A temple was established by the King Huiwen of the Qin state to offer sacrifice to the deity Qiuyuan. All these lines of information provide a geographic‘coordination’for us to trace the transportation and communication to northwest China during the Qin-Han periods.
