达拉·洪恩(Dara Horn,1977—)~①是美国当代犹太女作家,曾被《格兰塔杂志》评选为20位"美国最佳青年小说家"之一。洪恩创作的小说《迷途指津》展现出一个对技术痴迷的现代世界。作品通过展示储存记忆的不同方式,尤其是呈现了让世人震惊的充满着有形和无形记忆的开罗藏经库,从而对人类记忆以及数字记忆的局限进行了探讨。洪恩暗示在道德差异、个体差异和政治差异,尤其是历史差异的语境下存储记忆、更新自我以及其他人际关系中所面临的各种挑战。本对话的构想初始于笔者2014—2015年在哈佛大学英语系访学期间。此次访谈以《迷途指津》这部小说为基点,就洪恩的创作思想、对意第绪语的坚持、对文化传承的思考以及历史与记忆的关系等方面进行了探讨。
Dara Horn is a contemporary Jewish American female writer.She was chosen as one of"20 Best Young American Novelists,"by Granta magazine.In her novel A Guide for the Perplexed,Horn is presenting a world in deep obsession with technology.She parallels different ways of storing memory and discusses the limits of human memory and digital memory,especially through the lens of the Cairo Genizah,an amazing physical and tangible memory.Horn is suggesting the challenges of sharing memory,renewing selves and those of dealing with the interpersonal relations in the contexts that are fractured by moral,personal and political differences,especially those arising from history.The conversation was initiated during my study as a visiting scholar of English at Harvard(2014—2015).The interview was carried out on the basis of the novel A Guide for the Perplexedand discussed Horn’s ideas about her literary creation,her perseverance of Yiddish,her understanding of cultural heritage and the relationship between history and memory.
