Perioperative neurocognitive disorders(PND)refers to the changes in patients neurocognitive functions during perioperative period.Clinically, there is a lack of effective prevention and treatment strategies. In recent years, dexmedetomidine(Dex)has been used in the prevention and treatment of PND due to its effect on the suppression of inflammation,anti-sympathetic activity and brain protection. The related studies on the prevention and treatment of PND with Dex were reviewed, the clinical research progress and mechanism of the prevention and treatment of PND with Dex were described. The timing and dosage of the prevention and treatment of PND with Dex and the mechanism of action still need to be further discussed.
