The efficiency of utilization of the first-limiting amino acid during growth in the pig is low(50%,lysine deposited/lysine eaten×100%).The physiological processes underlying such low efficiency are identified and discussed,with a view to increasing lean deposition and its efficiency by dietary means or by genetic selection.
