Over the past 40 years of Reform and Opening,the construction of public infrastructure has been at the core of domestic social and economic development.This rapid expansion of the underground pipeline network and associated critical infrastructure,has resulted in ever increasing density and system complexity.How to effectively protect this infrastructure,as well as ensuring the continuity of public service(s)based on these infrastructure networks,has become a major challenge for regulators and industry alike.This paper provides an insight into effective damage prevention solutions,centred around how to address this challenge,leveraging global trends,as well as,associated benefits,systems methodology,structure and practices.This paper is potentially a reference document for driving the application of underground infrastructure protection in China.
