Objective: According to the secular change s of growth, the improved status of nu trition, and the existing problems of Chinese adolescents for the last 20 years , several strategies and measures are suggested in order to improve the health l evels of Chinese adolescents. Methods: The data of Chinese Nat ional Surveillance on Student's Health and Physical Fitness were analyzed, comb ined with cooper ative field survey and laboratory study. A series of norms and standards was set up in order to appraise adolescent growth level and detect nutritional proble ms. Results: The growth status of Chinese adolescents has been improved rapidly in recent years, and the detecting rates of nutrition problems decreased significa n tly. However, several problems, such as the large increment of obesity, the popu lar evidence of lower motor abilities, and the shortcomings of Chinese adolescen ts to hold back their rapid physical growth have been noticed. Conclus ion: We shou ld continuously strengthen the prevention and cure of students' common diseases, further improve the nutrition status of Chinese adolescents, especially concern about the adolescents' relative low body mass, malnutrition and anemia. Keys to our school health practice are to advocate 'nutrition civilization' and widesp r ead school nutritional education. We have to pay attention to the two-sided inf l uences of the secular growth changes, that is, to take a more active part in the p revention of obesity and its profound effects on the occurrence of non-infec tious diseases during adulthood.
