To select an ideal method for determination of available phosphorus(P)in reddish paddy soils, the available P contents in reddish paddy soils were determined. The soil samples were collected from long-term field experiments.Four commonly used determining methods(i.e.,Olsen,Bray,Resin,and Fe strip)were used to analyze the relationship between the content of available P and P uptake and yield of rice. All of the results of the determination of available P of the four methods were significantly intra-correlated,with coefficients greater than 0.61.In general, available P contents determined by Olsen and Resin methods were higher than those determined by Fe strip and Bray methods. For the reddish paddy soils,P uptake of rice had the strongest relationship with the available P determined by Olsen and Resin methods,in which an increase of 1 mg/kg of available P would result in 0.4 kg/hm^2 of P uptake increasing. Therefore,Olsen and Resin methods were ideal methods for the determination of available P in reddish paddy soils. In addition, field P management should comprehensively consider soil fertility conditions, because the responses of available P to rice yield varied among different paddy fields.
