Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of desensitizing saturated moxibustion plus acupuncture in treating cervical spondylopathy. Method One hundred patients with cervical spondylopathy were enrolled and randomized to an observation group (50 cases) and a control group (50 cases). The control group received conventional moxibustion plus acupuncture and the observation group, desensitizing saturated moxibustion plus acupuncture. The therapeutic effects were evaluated using the clinical symptom score, the McGill Pain Questionnaire and the Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire in the patients after treatment. The effects were compared between the two groups. Result After five treatments and at the end of treatment and the one and three months’ follow-up, the clinical symptom score, the McGill Pain Questionnaire score and the Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire score decreased significantly in both groups of patients (P<0.05) and decreased significantly more in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Moxibustion plus acupuncture has a definite therapeutic effect on cervical spondylopathy, and desensitizing saturated moxibustion plus acupuncture has a more marked therapeutic effect, which is mainly manifested in the relief of the clinical symptoms and short and long-term decreases in the patients’ local sensation of pain.
