In this paper several file transfer protocol, Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, and Kermit were analyzed and compared in detail. An enhanced proposal was put forward for Kermit, which has better compatibility and performance and spreads nearly worldwide. It assures repeated communication without fault when file transfer recovers from break point. An experiment program was carried out between two 586 PCs in C language and it proved true. In the program, it is to control serial port communcation directly. .
