摘要
Generic sentences在日常生活中普遍使用,引起国内外哲学家、逻辑学家、语言学家的广泛关注与研究。目前,学界对Generic sentences理解不同,在国内出现了五种译名。根据现有研究成果,从Generic sentences的特点、含义出发,本文提出Generic sentences是描述某类事物某种区别性特征的命题,宜译为"概称句"。研究结果有助于对Generic sentences特点的认识,深化Generic sentences的相关研究,也有益于探讨译名原则。
Generic sentences are widely used and have drawn scholarly attention in philosophy, logic and linguistics. So far there are different understandings and five Chinese versions concerning generic sentences. Based on the characteristics and types of generic sentences, this paper argues that a generic sentence is a proposition describing a distinctive feature of a category of things in the world and therefore generic sentences might well be rendered into Chinese ＂gaicheng ju＂. This paper is helpful to the understanding and further studies of generic sentences and to the translation principle of terms in general.
