摘要
顾临是中国近代医学发展史上的重要历史人物。他原是美国驻华外交官出身,后受洛克菲勒基金会邀请,长期担任洛克菲勒基金会创办的美国中华医学基金会驻华代表,从事医学教育活动二十余年,曾经担任北京协和医学院代理校长多年。他在北京协和医学院建立与鼎盛时期发挥过重要作用。对顾临在华教育活动进行深入系统地研究,可以窥见以洛克菲勒基金会为代表的美国在华势力对于中国近代医学教育发展的影响,从而为中国近代医学发展基本脉络研究提供新的视角与史料。
Roger Sherman Greene is an essential historical figure in the development of western medicine in modern China. He was a US diplomat to China. After being invited by Rockefeller Foundation（RF）, Roger Greene served as the resident director for the China Medical Board（CMB）, created by the RF, for a longtime. Mr Greene had been participating in medical education activities for more than twenty years. He also served as the acting president for the Peking Union Medical College （PUMC） for many years, having played a crucial role in the inception of the PUMC and in its heyday. By taking an in-depth and systematic research on the education activities carried out by Greene, it is better for us to realize the impacts of the US, especially the RF, exerted on the development of medical education in modern China. It could further provide new perspectives and new historical materials for the study of the development of modern medicine in China.
