研究者普遍认为工作记忆在二语习得中起重要作用。但是,研究者对工作记忆容量如何影响二语学习者的口语产出存在争议。本研究调查工作记忆容量与中国英语学习者口语产出的流利度、复杂度和准确度之间的关系。来自中国一所理工大学的30位英语学习者参加了此次研究。根据对学习者工作记忆容量广度测试和复述故事结果的分析,研究者发现,工作记忆容量大小与口语产出的准确度显著相关,与流利度部分指标相关,与复杂度无关。研究发现有助于进一步加深对工作记忆和二语学习者口语产出关系的理解。
Research to date lends support to the claim that working memory (WM) plays an important role in second language acquisition. However, mixed results have been found on its impact on L2 oral production. The study undertaken here explores the effects of WM on the accuracy, fluency, and complexity of learners' oral production. Thirty EFL students of intermediate proficiency from a university of technology in China have participated in this study by completing a working memory span task as well as a story-recall task. The results show that, working memory capacity correlates significantly with accuracy, with some dimensions of fluency, but not with complexity in L2 oral production. These findings help to further our understanding of the interrelationship between working memory and L2 oral output.
