典故词语义演变有"去典故化"趋势,即典故词与典源逐渐脱离而形成独立的意义,可以被使用者在不了解典源的情况下使用。一种情况是典故词本身亦有内部理据可循,即使脱离典源背景,使用者仍能通过语素意义推理而正确掌握。另一种情况是典故词的形式被沿用下来,但它的典故义被磨灭,使用者倾向于按字面形式"望文生义",创造出与本义相去甚远的新义。
A notable tendency of the semantic change of exquisite words is the bleaching of allusion meaning, which means that the meaning of an exquisite word becomes independent from its allusion gradually. In some occasions, the meaning of an exquisite word can be inferred correctly from the meaning of its morphemes with no inference to its allusion. In other occasions, however, the allusion meaning of an exquisite word is bleached so completely that language users tend to interpret the meaning literally. As a result, the new meaning of the exquisite word is totally different from its allusion meaning.
