Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease. Platelets and lymphocytes are involved in the progress of atherosclerosis. Platelets can interact with lymphocytes via direct contact or release soluble mediators and regulate the function of lymphocyte, even form "platelet-lymphocyte" aggregates, and subsequently promote the recruitment of lymphocyte into the injured vessel wall. Platelet-lymphocyte interaction influences the development of atherosclerosis and may be a promising therapeutic target. This review will focus on the platelet-lymphocyte interaction and its relationship with atherosclerosis.
