This paper shows the design and realization of a Chinese place name automatic recognition system based on combining statistical and rule-based techniques. It also proposes a method of computing the certainty degree of a place name. In the end, It evaluates the performance of the approach on a real data set, the recall and precision are 97% and 90.92% respectively. ;
